Introduction

Travis Heavener (HEAVE-nur) is a third-year ITWS student at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Travis often spends time outdoors and working on various programming projects (see Projects). He is an amateur photographer, experienced developer, and avid PC enthusiast, applying his diverse range of skills wherever possible.

At age twelve, Travis's self-guided programming journey began, driven by an existing passion for technology. Since then, he has taken on projects ranging from full-stack development, server programming, machine learning, and more. While his primary area of expertise is web development, Travis actively seeks out new challenges to sharpen his skills.

Projects and experience

Travis has developed several notable projects, including Mercury, a highly customizable and cross-platform HTTP server, made in C++. During a year-long high school research project, Travis also developed BinGo, an Android app that uses virtual bingo cards to encourage physical activity.

Aside from programming, Travis remains active in various pursuits. Throughout high school, he worked at Hammerdown BBQ in Aldie, VA, gaining valuable experience in customer service, food preparation, and leadership. After graduation, he completed IT internships with Next Phase Solutions and Services in 2023 and 2025, receiving hands-on experience with cloud computing, networking, and cybersecurity.
